In Thai we call this method “Yang Sam Khum”. This is really unique. The method is used only in Muay Thai training and fighting only. The move is used to get ready to attack, to protect yourself and to respond to your opponent’s attack fast enough and to hit back.
There are a variation of using this method of foodwork. Yang Sam Khum can be used in the fight or in the real contest or in the ritual of Wai Khru.
You can do the shuffle forwards and backwards, which are pretty much the same but different directions.
I’m going to tell you step by step of how to do it forwards.
1. Pull your rear foot up to the level of your lead foot
2. Now step forwards by using your lead foot
3. Raise your rear foot a little bit and at the same time bend your knee
4. Then keep your knee in the air and extend your leg to the front
5. Put that foot down in front of you
6. Now repeat the first step again
7. Repeat step 1 to 6 over and over
The shuffle backwards
1. Pull your lead foot back to the level of your rear foot
2. Now step backwards by using your rear foot
3. Raise your lead foot a bit and at the same time bend your knee
4. Then keep your knee in the air quite high and extend your leg out
5. Put that foot down in the back
6. Now repeat from the first step again and again
